Primo announces technology and innovation centre

Primo is setting up a technology and innovation centre. It will gather and develop the latest knowledge in plastic development, including materials science, sustainability, and production technology. The lighting industry is just one of the business areas set to benefit.

New premises will be renovated for Primo's new technology and innovation centre

Primo is building a dedicated technology centre. It will bring together Primo’s testing and development activities. These are currently spread across eight countries. The new centre is located at the factory in Denmark.

The centre will have three main functions:

  • Production Technology. Development of smarter production and standardization methods. This includes increased digitalization, automation, documentation, and machine learning that can support time-to-market.
  • Tools. Design, development, and production of the elements that form plastic profiles.
  • Materials. Development and research in plastic materials.

The centre means Primo will deliver world-class plastics profile innovation and technology to the lighting industry and other business areas.

The centre’s production lines will be dedicated to development and testing. This has previously taken place on production lines in operation. The centre will be a more flexible development environment, supporting both production and customers' innovation needs.

Primo CEO Claus Tønnesen says, "This is a signal to the market and our customers that we want to be at the forefront when it comes to the development of new innovative materials and products. Our goal with the centre is to focus on process and production optimisation and contribute to green transition with our customers. With our new centre we move from a reactive to a proactive approach in extrusion and materials science."

" One project in the pipeline at the Centre is how measure and document the carbon footprint of polymer solutions compared to for instance aluminum” Senior Business Developer Jaakko Salo says.

The Technology & Innovation Centre will open in late 2022.
