After years of thorough research and market analysis, the family-owned company has successfully established a Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC and Polyolefins (PE & PP) profile extrusion facility in Mobile, Alabama, marking a significant milestone in its global expansion.

Primo is setting up its factory on the premises of SLB OneSubsea. The new facility is dedicated to supplying PVC profiles for subsea cables, a crucial component of the SLB OneSubsea Umbilical design. This achievement is the result of a strategic partnership between the two companies, with strong support from the Mobile Chamber. SLB OneSubsea has invested in a new 24,000-square-foot building at its Mobile site to accommodate Primo’s operations.

The initial phase of Primo’s U.S. expansion includes the installation and operation of five production lines, with the first extruded plastic profile deliveries set to begin in the coming weeks. Looking ahead, the company anticipates a major milestone at the end of the year when Primo will transition into the fully operational 24,000-square-foot state-of-the-art facility, bringing its production capacity to full scale

With a substantial capital investment, Primo’s Mobile facility is expected to create 12 new jobs, further strengthening the region’s industrial ecosystem and supporting the energy and offshore sectors.

“This partnership with SLB OneSubsea marks an important step in Primo’s expansion into the U.S. market. By establishing our plastic extrusion facility in Mobile, we are not only strengthening our collaboration with SLB OneSubsea but also contributing to the region’s thriving industrial sector. We look forward to growing our presence here and fostering innovation in the energy and offshore industry,” says Primo CEO Claus Tønnesen.

Investment in the future

Primo will mark its entry into the US with an opening ceremony on Thursday 3 April 2025.

The expansion is an investment in the future of our energy and offshore activities. Primo provides high quality custom plastic profiles to the onshore and offshore industries. We design and manufacture extruded profiles for all types of applications for market leading companies worldwide.

Pre-installed for smooth implementation

The new offshore plant in Alabama is equipped with new extruders and downstream equipment. The extruders have been pre-installed and tested at the offshore production facility in Sweden, in close cooperation with the Group's technology specialists. This ensures the smoothest possible implementation.

New materials, new processes and new designs are usually tested and pre-approved at our Technology & Innovation Centre in Denmark. The facility includes dedicated test lines, a materials laboratory and a dedicated team to develop and monitor new profiles and solutions.
